In this presentation, Dr Dani Tomlin discusses what is meant by Auditory Processing (AP) and Auditory Processing Disorder (APD). Dr Tomlin assists viewers to identify some of the associated student behaviours and impacts of APD on student learning. The presentation describes some of the current methods of APD including Assessment, Diagnosis and Management. Dr Tomlin discusses strategies that can be implemented in the classroom to assist students in developing their ability to decode and comprehend spoken language.

Presenters

Dr Dani Tomlin is an Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne Department of Audiology and Speech Pathology, and is the Director of Teaching and Clinical Services. Dr Tomlin, who has over 20 years clinical experience, established the University of Melbourne Auditory Processing Disorder clinic in 2012, which now supports over 200 children per year.

Dr Tomlin’s primary research interest is in the field of Auditory Processing. This research interest began with her PhD, exploring what it means if a child is diagnosed with an auditory processing disorder. Dr Tomlin's research profile now stands with a large publication record including national and international partnerships in Industry, Government and Education and many grant awards.

Dr Tomlin has been an invited speaker at many international and national conferences over the last decade, alongside international webinar and in person workshops for professional development, in both the diagnosis and management of APD.

Dr Tomlin’s research, professional development contribution and clinical experience directly influence current national and international clinical practice. As a teaching expert, Dr Tomlin is responsible for the curriculum and training of Audiology graduates, further influencing clinical practice into the future.
