Description

This facilitator-led blended learning course has been co-designed by the Department of Education and University of Melbourne. It has been specifically designed for Victorian government secondary school staff to:

  • identify the functional needs of students with learning difficulties in the classroom.
  • develop an awareness of screening tools and checklists that can assist with identifying students with learning challenges.
  • reflect on the potential link between learning difficulties and challenging behaviour (both externalising and internalising).
  • develop an understanding of the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework and how it can support students with learning difficulties.
  • explore a range of supports and adjustments for students with learning difficulties.
  • become familiar with assistive technology options and understand the importance of individualised selection and ongoing support.

Audience

Education Support (ES) staff are invited to participate alongside a teacher from their school, where possible, because parts of the course focus on student assessment and teaching practice.

Delivery

This facilitator-led blended learning courses is undertaken over 5 weeks, and includes:

  • self-paced online modules
  • collaborate with others in online discussions and reflect on your learning
  • opportunities to apply your learning through a workbook
  • one facilitated 1-hour session to consolidate your learning.

Completion

Successful completion of this Inclusive Classrooms course provides eligibility to claim 12 hours professional learning contributing to relevant association registration requirements.
